Hello Reader, There's a saying you may have heard when you've gotten upset by someone or something. "Don't get bent out of shape." Back in my massage therapist days 24 years ago, I became keenly aware of how stress, fear, and pain affected the body, including my own. I was able to see how a particular kind of stress, fear, or pain caused my body to contract in some way. For example, when I felt like the burdens of my life were too heavy, my shoulders and neck would tighten up. If I wasn't feeling heard, my throat felt tight and painful. When the demands of life were high and I believed I needed to move faster to keep up, my psoas would tighten and pull my hips out of alignment. Essentially, I got bent out of shape. And it was true for my clients, as well. If the same stress kept coming up, the same spots in the body would go out of balance. This made it necessary to keep coming back for the same problems. There was another fascinating phenomenon that I witnessed. Time and again, as I facilitated a release of the imbalance and tension in a particular area of the body, the client would spontaneously begin to tell a story. It was usually a wonder to them that this story came at precisely that moment since often they hadn't thought about it for quite some time. It was always a story about some moment of stress, fear, or pain. And, if you've read or are familiar with Bessel van der Kolk's book, The Body Keeps The Score, it won't surprise you to learn that the physical healing supported an emotional one. As a healer, I came to understand the power of the stories we hold to be true about ourselves, not only in our minds, but in our bodies, as well. Some of these stories are buried deep. Yes, we can know that they're there but the roots of them have taken hold in unseen places within us. And so, even if we've shifted some awareness of our own truth and released some of the unkind fictions installed within... The roots will simply allow them to regrow. We have to get to the roots. And we have to do it in a regenerative way. We can't fight or try to kill these roots. Instead, there is a loving way to dissolve them which actually allows them to become nourishing to us. A Map Of Your Root SystemIn Human Design, there is a map that describes all the elements of you in elegant detail. It tells the story of You as you're meant to be, as well as all of the areas where you're open to the pressures from others to be what they, and even you, think you "should" be. The 9 shapes: triangles, squares, and the diamond, are called Centers. They're hubs for energy moving through you and each one has specific biological correlations. So, whatever happens with the energy that moves into, through, and out of each one will have an effect on its corresponding physical system. For example, the square at the bottom middle of the Bodygraph is called the Root Center. It's a Pressure Center and a Motor associated with stress, adrenaline, fuel, and drive. Biologically, it's correlated with the Adrenal Glands. In my Bodygraph, you can see that it's white because for me, it's Undefined. I'm open to the pressures and forces of others and life related stress and drive. If I'm around someone who has that colored in, I'm receptive to their consistent Root Center energy and will almost always feel increased pressure and stress, and feel like I need to move faster. If I'm unaware of my design, I'll think that it's me and believe that it's correct for me to ignite my adrenalized fuel in order to get myself moving. I'll draw upon my Adrenals incorrectly and use my fuel for life in ways that decrease my well-being. Now, if you have a defined Root Center, it doesn't mean that you don't feel stress or use adrenaline to power through life. You can misuse your consistent energy, too by making decisions from your Rational Intelligence rather than your true source of wisdom. In Human Design, that true source of wisdom is your Authority. Your True Source Of Balance & WisdomFollowing your Authority makes it possible for you to apply your life force in ways that once seemed impossible. Take the woman in the photo for example. Because she's drawing upon her life force energy in a balanced and correct way, she isn't forcing anything. She's not getting 'bent out of shape'... She's harmonizing with her design to create an extraordinary shape. Awareness of your Human Design is the key. It makes it possible for you to untangle what's true for you and what's not. Once you know what's actually correct for you based on YOUR unique design, you can make correct decisions. And the correct decisions allow your body to be more relaxed, vital, and healthy. You'll be able to bend and flow into and out of a variety of shapes... Without getting bent out of shape. Your Next StepSchedule your Human Design Exploration with me. You'll be introduced to the important elements of your design so you can live with more satisfaction, success, peace, or surprise.
