Reveal Your Potential Through Human Design

Your Best Plan For Weathering Crisis

Hello Reader,

In times of crisis, we all want a plan we can trust to see us safely through the storm.

In Human Design there's a specific element of the Bodygraph that carries the energy of crisis.

Gate 36: The Darkening of the Light - The Gate of Crisis
The rule of cycles in which decline is a natural but not enduring stage

This gate is a home for fears of vulnerability, inexperience, and emotional or sexual inadequacy.

Gate 36 is also where those fears can be resolved and transformed.

It supports you in creating and meeting the challenges of change and growth through emotional crisis.

This element inspires you to ask yourself questions like...

  • Am I comfortable with my feelings of vulnerability?
  • Does moving toward change make me feel inexperienced and unsure?
  • Am I afraid of my emotional or sexual inadequacy?

Some people have Gate 36 fixed in their Human Design Chart and so have some experience of it on a fairly regular basis.

Due to celestial influences, the entire world has been feeling it for some time now.

Celestial Influences

All of the gates in the Bodygraph are transited by celestial elements.

This brings a particular quality of energy to every gate which then can be experienced by us.

It probably won't surprise you that a lot of crisis has been and is being activated by these transits.

For example, the Moon moves through this Gate of Crisis every month for a few hours.

The Sun and Earth move through this Gate every year for 6 days, respectively.

The other planets and the nodes of the moon move through it in a variety of rhythms and speeds.

Most recently, Neptune, with it's slow orbit, sat in the Gate of Crisis for much of the past 4 years.

And just as Neptune was shifting out of it this year in early February, the North Node slid into it and will stay there until about mid-June.

Then, in late September, we'll see Saturn move into this gate until late January of 2026.

So, global, communal, and personal crisis will continue to be felt by all.

How, then, do you make a plan for the unexpected, the unwanted, and the unsettling?

Let's take a deeper look at this gate.

Gate 36 The Gate of Crisis is in the Solar Plexus Center, which is the Emotional Center.

Emotions are fluid and move in waves.

They rise up and crash down.

The crisis wave swells with intense emotion that yearns to find an outlet.

It finds that outlet in Gate 35: Progress - The Gate of Change, in the Throat Center which is the Expression, Manifestation, and Communication Center.

This gate is a collector of experiences from which to learn.

Gate 35 feels the desire for change and is hungry for a depth of feeling that's fed by the Gate of Crisis.

And the Gate of Crisis finds transformation and manifestation through the Gate of Change.

And the wisdom gained in this movement has the potential to enrich those involved.

The (Hu)man With The Plan

Almost always, when confronted by crisis, we humans will turn away from our emotions, vulnerability, and inexperience and call on our Rational Intelligence to figure out a plan.

This will include data, opinions, rules, checklists, authority figures, social edicts, and stories about how things, and we, "should" be.

The Human Design Bodygraph tells us that this is exactly the opposite way we're designed to meet and engage with crisis.

The Bodygraph shows how Crisis begins in the Emotional Center in Gate 36.

It moves in a wave up through the Channel of Transitoriness and when the circumstances are just right, finds its manifestation in the Throat by flowing through Progress and Change, Gate 35.

What this tells us is that the transformation of crisis doesn't happen through mental or rational progress and change.

It happens through emotional progress and change.

The key to your plan to weathering crisis lies in coming heart to heart with how you feel...

Deeply and without constructing a mental narrative about it.

Because the second you feel the rising intense discomfort of facing your emotions caused by crisis...

Your first reaction will be to talk yourself into or out of thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Now, it takes awareness and trust to sit with your emotions until clarity emerges.

And it emerges of its own volition and in its own time.

Meanwhile, you'll feel pressure to do something about the crisis before you.

Anything.

As long as it diverts the pressure.

Instead, consider the words of Lao Tzu...

“Do you have the patience to wait
Till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
Till the right action arises by itself?”
Lao tzu

All crisis creates the space within which you ready yourself for change, progress, and growth.

We're transformed by our emotions so long as we are willing to wait for emotional clarity over time.

And in order to effectively prepare yourself, you need to see, embrace, appreciate, and love your emotions, vulnerability, inexperience, and inadequacy.

Wu Wei

Mind you, this isn't the same as doing nothing.

It's noticing where you have emotional clarity about the crisis, growth, and change and then, only manifesting that.

It may not feel big, dramatic, or complete.

It doesn't have to.

Because when you trust and act upon your clarity, only good can come of it...

Even if it feels small, unexciting, or imperfect.

Right action can never come from muddy water.

Ever.

So start small and start now.

Sit with the muddiness of whatever crisis faces you in this moment.

Notice when that first bit of clarity emerges...

And follow that.
